The West Indies finally move out of Lucknow after their month-long series against Afghanistan in which they won the ODI series and the one-off Test but lost in the shortest format.

Now the team from the Caribbean face a sterner test against Virat Kohli’s team in a couple of limited-overs series that includes three T20Is and three ODIs.

Let us take a look at the key player battles that could define the outcome of the series.

    Evin Lewis vs Deepak Chahar

    Lewis

The bowler who set the record for the best ever figures in T20Is will be up against the only batsman to score two T20I centuries against India.

Lewis endured a torrid time against the Indian pacers when the two teams met in August. He scored 10 runs in three innings and was dismissed twice by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and once by Deepak Chahar .

The left-handed opener has a point to prove with the ICC T20 World Cup round the corner.Ā  Similarly, Chahar too will want to perform to cement his position as India’s new ball bowler in T20Is.

The hosts are looking to settle on a backup for all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The baton has been passed from Vijay Shankar to Shivam Dube.

The 26-year-old, though known for his six-hitting prowess, impressed with the ball than with the bat against Bangladesh. The medium pacer bowled a crucial spell in the series decider against Bangladesh and picked up three wickets.

However, he couldn’t prove himself as a big-hitter and will be keen to show his credentials with the bat in this series.

Meanwhile, Hayden Walsh Jr., the highest wicket-taker in the Caribbean Premier League, can establish himself as the main wrist-spinning option for the Windies by performing well against India.

The leg-spinner who isn’t afraid to flight the ball, will be bowling to exciting stroke-makers in Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube and it will be exciting to watch this contest unfold in the middle overs.

Sheldon Cottrell vs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

The left-arm pacer’s nagging length could be key in unlocking India’sĀ  formidable top-order. Cottrell’s ability to bring the ball back into the right-hander will prove mighty useful against Kohli and Sharma who at times get caught on the crease and tend to fall over against left-arm pacers.

Virat Kohli will be leading the team once again after opting to miss the series against Bangladesh in November. He, alongside his deputy Rohit Sharma will be looking to impose themselves on the pace attack.

Cottrell can bowl cutters and has an accurate yorker in his arsenal which makes him an effective bowler in T20Is.
