Abu Dhabi Indian School (ADIS) were crowned Under-14 champions after they beat Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Pakistan School by 30 runs in the finals of the Abu Dhabi Inter-school Tournament at Zayed Stadium.
Justin D’Souza laid the foundation for ADIS’ victory with a top-score of 43 in his team’s total of 153 all out in 24.5 overs. ADIS bowlers then struck at regular intervals to dismiss Pakistan School for 123 in 20.1 overs.
D’Souza stroked 43 off 49 deliveries for ADIS after Tahir Mohammed’s double-strike removed Sarvesh Selvam (0) in the very first over and one-drop Sreeradh Pothera (2) two overs later.
However, Pakistan School bowled too many wides (28) and gave away 37 runs in extras for ADIS to build a healthy total after they were put in to bat first.
D’Souza was sixth out at 116 but useful contributions from the lower order – Bharath Siva (15), Ayman Gundru (14) and Anirudh Padmanabhan (14 not out) – helped ADIS post a defendable 153.
In reply, Pakistan School raced to 25 for no loss in four overs but lost three wickets for three runs to Pothera, Kushal Mohnot and Nauman Haneef. Bilal Mohammed (23) and Siddique Akbar (10) got Pakistan School’s chase back on track with a 35-run stand for the eight wicket when Padmanabhan struck twice in successive deliveries.
D’Souza was adjudged the Most Valuable Player, Manpreet Singh the Best Bowler (both of ADIS) while Rehan Azam of Pakistan School was declared the Best Batsman.
RESULT:
Abu Dhabi Indian School (153 all out) bt. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Pakistan School (123 all out) by 30 runs.
Man of the Match: Justin D’Souza of ADIS.
