  • Langer is searching for his first win as Australia coach.

Australia players will have to go the extra yard in convincing new coach Justin Langer of their position in the team if Adam Gilchrist’s latest comments are anything to go by.

Langer, who is undertaking a pre-England tour camp for the players currently in Brisbane, is attempting to overhaul the dressing room culture in the wake of the recent ball-tampering saga which left Australian cricket in its wake.

According to his former team-mate Gilchrist, Langer has asked his players to show that they are good enough to marry one of his four daughters.

“Langer, as you’ve heard, wants honesty and humility,” Gilchrist said on Fox Sports show Back Page Live on Tuesday.

“Actually, I’ve heard him say he wants his players to be good enough blokes that he would consider allowing them to marry his daughters. He’s got four daughters – so that’s the selection process going on,” the former Australia wicket-keeper batsman added.

Langer took over the role of the Australian men’s team coach following the resignation of Darren Lehmann. Lehmann had resigned after Australian players including then skipper Steve Smith admitted to ball-tampering in the Cape Town against South Africa.

Following the saga, Smith, along with David Warner, has been handed a 12-month ban from international cricket by Cricket Australia while Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

Langer’s first major assignment as Australia coach begins next month in June when his side will travel to England to play five ODIs and a sole T20I. Test skipper Tim Paine will lead the side in the ODIs while Aaron Finch will take over the role for the sole T20I at Edgbaston.
