  • Lesson one of the Cricket World Cup: don’t count out Pakistan.

The men in green, who had slumped to 11 embarrassing ODI defeats in a row – including four to England – somehow beat the tournament hosts and huge favourites at Trent Bridge on Monday.

There is a huge Pakistani expat community in England, and fans couldn’t contain themselves after a breathless victory that was wrapped up by star bowlers Mohammed Amir and Wahab Riaz with 14 runs to spare.

After the game, paceman Hasan Ali insisted Pakistan never lost self-belief after they ended a long losing streak in such dramatic fashion.

“We were very disappointed we lost 11 games in a row but one thing is very important, we believed in ourselves,” said Ali.

“We needed just a little bit of kick and then we will click. We got that kick. We needed the win because we are playing at the World Cup.”

Pakistan supporters well and truly appreciated their efforts – catch the video above!
