  • Brad Hodge recently coached The Gujarat Lions in the IPL

A day after we reported that Dav Whatmore was one of the applicants for the India head coach role, sources have told Sport360.com that another former Australian cricketer, Brad Hodge, has also put his name forward for the job.

After Whatmore, Hodge is the second non-Indian to have reportedly shown interest for the vacancy advertised by the BCCI.

The Indian cricket board announced on Sunday that it had received a total of 57 applications for the post.

While Indian candidates such as Sandip Patil, Ravi Shastri and Pravin Amre have publicly announced their candidature, the list of foreign applicants remains guarded.

Hodge, 41, represented Australia in six Tests, 25 ODIs and 15 T20Is between 2005 and 2014, and is one of few current coaches still an active player.

In the recently concluded IPL, Hodge served as Gujarat Lions coach, helping to lead the side to first-place in the league stages. Earlier this year, the former Victoria all-rounder was part of the inaugural Pakistan Super League as a player, representing Peshawar Zalmi.

Hodge’s relative coaching inexperience is offset by the fact that he has played a lot of franchise cricket in the subcontinent.

Apart from the PSL, Hodge has turned out for Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League and has played for IPL franchises Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
