  • A top gesture from the former captain to the current skipper.

Indian captain Virat Kohli has revealed that former skipper MS Dhoni gave him a signed match ball after the second ODI between India and England at Cuttack.

Dhoni has a habit of collecting stumps after India’s wins, but isn’t able to do so these days as the LED stumps are expensive.

Therefore, when Kohli completed his first ODI series win as permanent captain, Dhoni gave him the match ball instead at the end of the game.

“Well, MS gave me the match ball in the second game. The stumps are too expensive nowadays and they don’t allow us to take it home (smiles),” said. Kohli.

“He gave me the ball and told me that it was my first series win as captain and it is memorable. It was a special moment for me and I got the ball signed from him as well.”

India beat England 2-1 in the three-match ODI series, with the two teams now moving on to play three T20Is. The first match is scheduled for 26 January, 2017 at Kanpur.
