  • Skipper Virat Kohli and other Indian cricket team members took to social media to wish all the Indians around the world as the nation celebrated its 70th Independence Day on Tuesday.

It was a special day for Kohli who was also celebrating his father’s birthday. The batting maestro posted a short video message on his Instagram profile to mark both the occasions.

The skipper was joined by Ravichandran Ashwin, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma among others in wishing all Indians on the special day.

Ashwin and opener Abhinav Mukund have left for Chennai to join up with their Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) outfits after the completion of the three-match Test series.

Others like Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul have stayed behind in the island nation for the upcoming One Day Internationals (ODI’s) and Twenty20 clash against the hosts.

It was a celebratory day around the Indian camp after they had made short work of Dinesh Chandimal’s men to win the final Test at Pallekele within three days by over an innings on Monday.

With this victory, Kohli’s side has become the first ever Indian team to clean-sweep an away series with three or more Tests played.

All the attention now shifts to the first ODI to be played at Dambulla on Sunday when the two teams go head-to-head again for a five-match series.

Spinners Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the shorted formats after their exploits in the Test series along with pacers Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav.

Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has also returned to India after his two brilliant centuries in the 3-0 victory over Sri Lanka.
