  • Cricket fans in Pakistan to get a taste of international cricket once again.

The excitement in Pakistan in anticipation of the visit of the ICC World XI continues to grow with each passing day as international cricket makes a return to the country after years of isolation.

The three-match Twenty20 series named as the Independence Cup has been scheduled to get started on September 12 in Lahore.

The teams have been announced and the Gaddafi stadium is ready with the Pakistan players going through their motions in the training camp at the National Cricket Academy.

Tickets for the historic visit of the World XI went on sale on Friday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have also released the first television commercial for the highly anticipated series.

The World XI are being led by South African skipper Faf du Plessis and will arrive in the country on September 11 after attending a two-day training camp in Dubai.

The ICC has also appointed former West Indies skipper Richie Richardson as the match-referee for the historic contest. This is the first time an ICC official will supervise the proceedings for any match in the country ever since the 2009 terrorists attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus.

All of the three T20 clashes will be played in Lahore within a span of three days, with the final encounter taking place on September 15.

The ICC has thrown its complete support behind the event as Pakistan hopes that a successful completion of the Independence Cup could open the doors for more teams to visit the country.

Sri Lanka and West Indies are scheduled to visit Pakistan for T20 clashes later this year and if everything goes smoothly, international cricket could be back in a big way for the Asian giants.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) final was held in the country earlier this year with several international stars making the effort to participate in the extravaganza in a watershed moment for the PCB.

The passionate supporters of the national team who have been deprived of quality cricket in their own backyards will get their share of the action in a bumper second-half of the year.
