Pakistan batsman Shehzar Mohammad wrote himself into the record books on Friday as he notched up his maiden first-class double hundred.

Grandson of the legendary Hanif Mohammad, Shehzar slammed a 265 for Karachi Whites in their Quaid-e-Azam clash against Multan.

In doing so, Shehzar followed in the footsteps of his legendary grandfather, father, uncle and two grand-uncles as he became the sixth member of the Mohammad family to achieve the milestone.

The 26-year-old struck 30 boundaries and a six in his knock at the Multan Cricket Stadium in what was his 36th first-class appearance.

His milestone knock means that the Mohammad family has become the second in cricket’s history to have three generations of first-class double centurions.

His grandfather Hanif played 55 Tests for Pakistan, scoring nearly 4,000 runs at an average of 43.98. Shehzar’s father Shoaib has also represented Pakistan at international level and has played 45 Tests and 63 ODIs.

Hanif’s brothers Sadiq and Mushtaq have both scored a first-class double ton alongside his nephew Imran.

Shehzar’s father Shoaib expressed his pride at the milestone achieved by his family.

“This is a great moment for everyone in Mohammad family. This shows that cricket runs in our blood,” the former Pakistan international told Geo TV.

“If Hanif sahab (Mohammad) were alive today, he would have been very proud to see Shehzar scoring the double century,” Shoaib added.

Prior to his maiden double hundred, Shehzar had scored 2,867 runs in 35 first-class matches at an average of just over 20. In List A cricket, the right-hander has scored only 343 runs in 23 matches at an average of just 18.05. He is the 11th member overall from the Mohammad family to play first-class cricket in Pakistan.
