Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have reportedly emerged as the favourites the Pakistan head coach and bowling coach jobs respectively following Thursday’s round of interviews before a five-member panel constituted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

According to a report by Geo News, the two former Pakistan stalwarts have emerged as the preferred choice for the five-member panel led by Intikhab Ali after interviews with various shortlisted candidates.

Apart from Misbah, the other candidates in the running for the Pakistan head coach role are Dean Jones and Mohsin Khan. However, the former Pakistan skipper is reportedly the clear favourite despite his lack of previous coaching experience.

The 45-year-old is currently commandeering a 17-day pre-season training and fitness camp for 25 Pakistan players at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. The former batsman recently stepped down from his position in PCB’s cricket committee before formally applying for the Pakistan head coach job.

Meanwhile, Waqar Younis looks set to get the nod as the next Pakistan bowling coach after fellow candidate Muhammad Akram dropped out of the running in the last minute. The other candidates vying for the job are former Pakistan pacers Yasir Arafat and Jalaluddin.

The five-member panel which also included PCB managing director Wasim Khan will sent its recommendations to chairman Ehsan Mani before a final decision is announced.

The Pakistan coaching staff roles have been lying vacant ever since the PCB opted against renewing the contracts of Mickey Arthur and his colleagues post the team’s failure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup semi-final.
