    LATHAM-WILLIAMSON’S SIXTH CENTURY STAND

Tom Latham and Kane Williamson have batted together in just 24 innings in Tests and already have six century stands as a pair. No New Zealand batting pair in the history of Test cricket has more.

Andrew Jones and John Wright, andWilliamson and Ross Taylor are the other Kiwi pairs who have six century stands in Test cricket.

Latham and Williamson are still unbeaten and will look to build on their 117-run partnership on Saturday.

RARE TEST CENTURY PARTNERSHIP BY AN AWAY TEAM IN INDIA

The partnership between the pair on Friday was the first century stand by an opposition team in Indian conditions since March 2013.

The last century partnership by a touring team was between Australia duo Ed Cowan and David Warner in Mohali. Since then, seven Tests have followed where no team has been able to register a century effort against India in their own backyard.

GUPTILL’S FORGETTABLE TEST RECORD IN ASIA

Martin Guptill might be one of the best limited-overs batsmen in the world, but his form from there hasn’t carried on to the longest format of the game.

The right-handed opening batsman has played 44 Tests for the Blackcaps, scoring 2427 runs at a lowly average of 29.59.

When you see his record in Asia, things get worse for Guptill. Currently playing his ninth Test in Asia, he has scored just 352 runs and has an average of only 20.70 – a contrast to his 43.25 ODI average.

    WILLIAMSON’S SUPERB RUN OF FORM

    Williamson's last 10 Test innings

    • Runs: 647
    • Average: 78.14
    • 50+ scores: 6

The New Zealand skipper has now scored 50+ runs in six of his last 10 innings in Test cricket. Out of his previous five innings, he managed to reach the three-digit mark only once.

In his last 10 Test innings, Williamson has notched 547 runs at an average of 78.14. This shows why the 26-year-old is one of the most highly-rated cricketers in the world.

Williamson will resume batting on Saturday on 65.

    ASHWIN’S LONG WAIT

India’s premier spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, from whom Indian fans expect a lot, bowled 84 deliveries without a wicket on Friday. This is the longest he has had to wait for his first wicket in a Test in India since 2013.

The last time he had to wait so long to take a scalp in home conditions was in the first innings against the West Indies at Kolkata in Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell series. He had picked up his first wicket off the 108th ball he bowled in that innings.

Ashwin ended the day with figures of 0/43 from 14 overs.
