India registered a comfortable 178-run win to clinch the series against New Zealand. With the series won, the Indian team have returned to the number one spot on the ICC Test Rankings.
Another crucial contribution from Wriddhiman Saha saw India stretch their lead past 350, eventually setting the visitors a target of 376.
It was always going to be an improbable task for the Blackcaps, but with Tom Latham batting beautifully and the team total at 104/1, there might have been some jitters in the Indian camp.
New Zealand’s hopes, though, didn’t last for long as they were bowled out for 197 with seven wickets falling in the post-tea session.
Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with one wicket.

Sorry, Pakistan. Your reign on top of ICC Test rankings was so short-lived. In any case, it was owed mostly to Caribbean hurricanes #IndVsNZ

Much credit to the curators at both Green Park and Kanpur though. Two terrific games. One went to day five, the other almost so. #INDvsNZ

If they can keep him fit, India have a serious pace bowler in Shami. This spell has been magnificent. #INDvsNZ

The best part about India's Eden Gardens win is not series or No 1, but the way almost everyone performed together as a team! #IndvsNZ
