  • Anderson and Ashwin exchange a few words as Kohli looks on.

On Sunday, England fast bowler James Anderson created a bit of a stir by mentioning that Virat Kohli’s technique hadn’t changed much from 2014 and that the pitches in India are such that the Indian captain’s weaknesses cannot be exposed.

Unsurprisingly, Anderson was given a hostile welcome to the crease when he came out to bat on the final day of the Test. It was Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who got into the English pacer’s face and had a few words with him before Kohli got involved.

Later, at the post-match press conference, Kohli stated that he had no clue about what Anderson had said and that he was only trying to play peacemaker.

“It was the first time I was trying to calm things down at a time when he (Anderson) was involved. Ashwin was not pleased with whatever he had said in the press. Ashwin told me on the ground, I had no clue about it. I was laughing about it, but Ashwin was not too impressed,” said Kohli.

“He (Ashwin) let him know, not using bad words at all, I think he said he was pretty disappointed in what he said and it’s important to accept defeat and things like that.

“You know how Ashwin is, to the point he can really strike you well without using bad words. That’s exactly what happened. Later on, I told James these things happen and it’s time to move on.”

Anderson was the last English wicket to fall as India wrapped up the series after defeating England by an innings and 36 runs in the fourth Test at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Kohli was named as the Man of the Match for his knock of 235.
