After eight matches, England finally managed to win an international game on their tour of India as they defeated the hosts in a thriller at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
The Eoin Morgan-led side’s five-run victory in the third ODI was a source of relief for them, having already lost the series.
Ben Stokes was named the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 57 from 39 deliveries and his spell of 3/63.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan lauded the performances of the English team, tweeting that winning even one game in India requires a great effort.
On the other hand, Indian coach Anil Kumble congratulated his team on the series win while it was noted by a few that England had come from conceding four sixes and the losing the World T20 final to bowling four dots to win an ODI at the same venue – Eden Gardens. Some redemption, there.
An amazing series with such persevering efforts from Team India. Well done team on the series win! #INDvENG @BCCI

2087 runs in 6 innings. Average of nearly 348 per innings. Doubt it has ever happened before. Just a Bat vs Bat contest.#IndvEng

Kedar 'Damdaar' Jadhav...what a player. Man of the Series...without doubt. Respect. #INDvENG

2-1 is a seriously good result given England is among the best limited overs teams going. Few teams have such riches in terms of balance

Kedar Jadhav is a product of proper investment of time and opportunity. An aspect lost in Manish Pandey's case. #IndvEng

Great game, great series! (some would still prefer the old 240 v 220 - 8 snooze fests of course..) #INDvENG
