Australia showed that their performance in the Pune Test was no fluke as they put India on the back foot on day one of the second Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
India won the toss and elected to bat first, but struggled to come to terms with the bowling of Nathan Lyon. The Australian off-spinner picked up eight wickets for 50 runs – the best bowling figures in Test cricket by an overseas bowler in India.
The hosts were bundled out for just 189, despite the best efforts of opener KL Rahul who scored 90.
Australia ended the day in a strong position, with openers David Warner and Matt Renshaw adding 40 runs without the loss of a wicket.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke led the praises for Lyon, tweeting: “What a performance from @NathLyon421 8-50… class, class, class and one of the great guys of our sport.”
On the other hand, former England skipper Michael Vaughan tried to troll the Australians.
Great day @CricketAus

Changes of pace & flight without loss of line or length. 7 out of 8 wkts RHBs on a day 1 pitch. Now that's what I call bowling #Lyon 🇮🇳🇦🇺

Looks to me like India have been a little complacent playing against a lower standard team ...... !!!!!!!!!

First time in 40 years that India have been bowled out for less than 200 in three consecutive innings at home - 105, 107 and 189. #IndvAus

And, Indian batsmen average 8.00 this series.
Extras average 9.67.
India have batted worse than leg byes & byes!
KL Rahul played brilliantly in first innings of both the Test and scored half centuries when pitch were spinning, bouncing and zipping..
