  • Perfect 10 for India.

Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht starred for India as they continued their winning run in the ICC Women’s World Cup with a 95-run win over Pakistan in Derby on Sunday.

Bisht took five for 18 in her 10-over spell as Pakistan were bowled out for 74 in pursuit of a target of 170.

India captain Mithali Raj was full of praise for Bisht who has taken 68 wickets in 43 ODIs in her career so far.

“Ekta has always delivered when she has been given the challenge of the new ball,” said Raj.

“She’s delivered time and again for India and I’m very proud of her. Her spell was so crucial. She gave us the heads up with the wickets in her first spell that got the team back into it.”

Mansi Joshi, who was playing in her first match in the tournament, took two wickets while Jhulan Goswami, Deepti, and Harmanpreet Kaur all accounted for one wicket each.

Earlier, Nashra Sandhu’s four-wicket haul had restricted India to 169-9 in their 50 overs – a total that looked below par at the time but was enough for a big win in the end.

For the Indians, Punam Raut top scored with 47 while Sushma Verma and Deepti Sharma made crucial contributions, scoring 33 and 28 respectively. Verma’s knock was especially important as it came from just 35 deliveries.

“When we reached 170 I knew that it could be anybody’s game. We just needed those early breakthroughs so that we were in it,” added Raj.
