  • India’s Mithali Raj has been named as the captain of the Women’s World Cup team of the tournament by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Raj was the second highest run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 409 runs at an average of 45.44. She led the Indian team admirably as they reached the World Cup final for the second time in their history.

Two other Indian players – Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma – have also been included in the best XI. Harmanpreet had a superb tournament, scoring 359 runs and taking five wickets with her best performance coming against Australia in the semi-final where she hit an unbeaten 171 in one of the greatest ODI knocks of all time.

On the other hand, 19-year-old Deepti was in brilliant all-round form as she scored 216 runs and took 12 wickets in nine matches.

Champions England have as many as four players in the team – opening batter Tamsin Beaumont, wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor, pacer Anya Shrubsole, and spinner Alex Hartley.

While Beaumont was named the Player of the Tournament after ending the World Cup as the leading run-scorer with 410 runs, Taylor accounted for 396 runs, four catches and two stumpings.

Shrubsole was the star of the final as she took bowling figures of 6-46 to lead England to a win that looked unlikely at one point of time. Hartley, meanwhile, took 10 wickets in the tournament.

South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt (324 runs), Dane van Niekerk (99 runs and 15 wickets), Marizanne Kapp (13 wickets) and Australia’s Ellyse Perry (404 runs and nine wickets) also made the team.

“The Team of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 was selected by a five-person selection panel that comprised Geoff Allardice (ICC General Manager – Cricket, and Chairman Event Technical Committee), former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, former England captain Charlotte Edwards, former India player turned journalist Snehal Pradhan and former Australia all-rounder Lisa Sthalekar,” read an ICC media release.
