  • Football is something synonymous with every Englishman and with serious money being thrown about in the Premier League summer transfer window, the cricket team was not going to be left behind.

Joe Root’s men had some fun with the football as they readied themselves for England’s first ever day-night Test to be played against the West Indies in Edgbaston on Thursday.

The players were in high spirits as they indulged in a game of footie on the lush green outfield at Edgbaston.

Stuart Broad showcased his very own knee-sliding goal-celebration, similar to Wayne Rooney, after putting the ball into the back of the net following a Ben Stokes pass.

Moeen Ali was not going to let Broad have the last laugh though and the England all-rounder, still fresh from his exploits in the final Test against South Africa, took celebrations to a whole new level after scoring a mere tap-in.

The 30-year-old lifted his top to display a message saying ‘100th goal’, in a celebration reminiscent of top pro footballers who lift their jerseys after scoring a goal to send out any important message.

One might suspect a cheeky Chelsea bid incoming for Broad as they look to shore up their attack after the Diego Costa saga while Ali’s tap-ins might come in handy for some other Premier League team.

The attention from the football will shift solely to the pink-ball come Thursday with excitement building around England’s first ever day-night Test.

The move has come in to generate more excitement for the purest format of the game, and with over 70000 tickets sold for the opening three days of the Test, it looks like the initiative might already be paying-off.
