  • Karthik will be making a return after missing out on the Australia series.

India recalled Dinesh Karthik to the one-day international squad, while KL Rahul was left out as the Men in Blue announced their squad for three upcoming matches against New Zealand.

Karthik, 32, was part of the squad for the recent T20 series against Australia but did not get a place in the starting lineup in the two matches.

Rookie fast bowler Shardul Thakur was also included in the 15-man squad for the series starting October 22 in Mumbai. Veteran pacemen Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav were omitted.

Shikhar Dhawan, who had not featured in the Australia ODIs, was named in the final squad while opener Ajinkya Rahane retained his spot from the last series.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were once again ignored for the limited-overs setup with wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav keeping their places along with the more orthodox Axar Patel continuing to find favour.

Bhuvenshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah headline India’s pace attack in the 50-overs setup.

The middle-order wears a familiar look with Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni retaining their spots in the squad while Karthik will join them in the fray.

The Virat Kohli-led side thrashed Australia 4-1 in the ODI series before a 1-1 result in the T20s following the abandonment of the third and final match on Friday.

The two sides will play three 50-over games and as many T20Is in the month long tour of the Black Caps to India.
