  • Virat Kohli reclaimed the top rank from AB de Villiers.

India skipper Virat Kohli has reclaimed the ICC ODI No.1 ranking for batsmen as he garnered his highest ever points ranking.

Riding on the back of his two hundreds in the recently concluded three-match series with New Zealand, Kohli has surpassed legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar to accumulate the highest-ever ratings by an Indian.

The 28-year-old batsman has 889 rating points in the latest updated ICC table, overtaking South Africa’s AB de Villiers who had briefly climbed back to the top of the charts for 10 days after his comeback ton against Bangladesh.

The Indian batting sensation had also recently overtaken Australian great Ricky Ponting’s 30 one-day tons to become the second-highest century-maker in the history of the format.

Kohli’s 32 hundreds lie only behind Sachin Tendulkar who has a staggering 49 ODI tons to his name.

The stylish right-handed batsman already has six centuries in his kitty in the calendar year which has seen him score an astounding 1, 460 runs in 26 innings at an average of nearly 77 runs.

India's Jasprit Bumrah also climbed to a career-best third rank.

There was good news for Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma too whose Kanpur century has propelled him to a career-high rating of 779 points though he remains stationary in the seventh position in the table.

In the bowling department, India’s Kanpur win hero Jasprit Bumrah has climbed to a career-best third position in the rankings chart with Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali continuing to lead the way after his stellar 2017.

With India unable to complete a 3-0 clean sweep of the Black Cats in the ODI series, their 2-1 win keeps them two points behind the Proteas who completed a whitewash of the visiting Bangladesh in a three-match series recently.
