  • Sri Lanka plan further tours of Pakistan after travelling to Lahore for 3rd T20I.

After touring Lahore for the final T20I against Pakistan, plans are afoot for Sri Lanka to send more touring teams to the country in the near future.

Speaking to the media on the team’s return to Colombo, Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive Ashley de Silva said that the board had been left impressed by the security measures undertaken by their Pakistan counterparts.

“They delivered the security they promised and we were very satisfied with all the arrangements,” de Silva said.

The SLC chief also underlined plans for Sri Lanka to undertake a full tour of Pakistan in the future while adding that the Under-19 and Sri Lanka A teams would be doing so very soon.

“Our FTP (Future Tours Program) does not include Pakistan, but we will have one as soon as possible. We are sending our A team and an Under-19 team to play against Pakistan shortly,” he said.

Sri Lanka returned to Lahore for the first time since 2009 when a terrorist attack on its team bus had left several players and staff members injured.

Since then international sides have shunned touring Pakistan with the cricket team playing its ‘home’ matches in the UAE.

Several contracted Sri Lankan players had expressed hesitation on touring Lahore for the final T20I which had led the SLC to name a revamped squad for the historic match at the Gaddafi stadium, with all-rounder Thisara Perera leading the side.

Perera, who had also toured Lahore with the ICC World XI in September, praised the Pakistan Cricket Board for the security afforded to his team and said that he would love to come back to the country for more cricket.

“In my nine years of cricket I have never seen that level of security. I think we can play again in Pakistan,” the all-rounder said on his return to Colombo.

Sarfraz Ahmed’s men won the Lahore T20I by 36 runs to complete a 3-0 clean sweep of the series which had seen the first two matches played in Abu Dhabi.
