England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) proposed 100-ball format could have top Indian stars participating in the tournament when it launches in 2020.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the BCCI is considering making an exception to allow Indian players to participate in ECB’s latest baby.
“India’s all-powerful cricket authority, the BCCI, which bans its players from overseas T20 tournaments to protect their market-leading Indian Premier League, are understood to be considering making an exception for the Hundred because it is played over 100 balls compared to 120,” the report stated.
Currently, no Indian player is allowed by the BCCI to participate in any foreign T20 competitions.
The report further goes on to add that making Indian players available for the tournament would go on to serve as a bargaining chip for the BCCI in any future negotiations for an IPL franchise in London.
The IPL had earlier announced plans to launch fan parks in new markets such as USA, UK and Dubai in the future though reports of a possible franchise-based in London is a new development.
The ECB had recently announced its plans to launch the ‘Hundred’ for both men and women in 2020 in a bid to revive interest in the sport in the country.
The ECB earlier did not allow its England players to participate in the IPL in the initial years before a change in stance in recent years. This year, a record number of 13 English players participated in the IPL.
