  • All-round effort: Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib Al Hasan claimed match figures of 10 for 163 as Bangladesh secured a 162-run win over Zimbabwe in Khulna yesterday to clinch the three-Test series with a game to spare.

Having resumed day five of the second Test on 201 for five, the Tigers advanced to 248 for nine – an overall lead of 313 – before declaring their second innings.

Zimbabwe’s second innings got off to a dreadful beginning, with debutant Brian Chari (four), fellow opener Sikandar Raza (nine) and captain Brendan Taylor (nought) all on their way within 10 overs.

Hamilton Masakadza sought to steady the ship and received some assistance from Regis Chakabva (27) and Craig Ervine (21).

But Masakadza’s exit – Mominul Haque taking the catch at silly point to hand Shakib his third wicket – left the visitors reeling on 137 for six and expedited the result.

They were eventually bowled out for 151.

Shakib was named Man of the Match after adding to his firstinnings figures of five for 80 with a haul of five for 44 in the second innings.

Shakib, who became only the third player to score a century and take 10 wickets in a Test, claimed the rare feat had been on his mind.

The 27-year-old joined Ian Botham of England and Imran Khan of Pakistan as the only cricketers to do so.

Both the previous feats were against India, Botham doing it in Mumbai in 1980 and Khan in Faisalabad in 1983.

“I had my eye on this record ever since a journalist told me about it a few weeks ago,” Shakib said after being declared the Man of the Match.

“I was lucky and fortunate to have done it. This was not an easy wicket to bat on and the ball was turning a lot on the last day.

“I am glad to contribute to a series win, but it was a very good team effort. Hopefully we will continue to do well in future.”
