  • In a spin: Sohaib Maqsood has been ruled out of both T20 and ODI series against the Black Caps after a wrist fracture.

The Pakistan team, already short of frontline bowlers, has finally received good news as bustling pacer Wahab Riaz is on a good recovery path ahead of T20Is and ODIs against New Zealand according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official.

    – Pakistan hold on to draw second Test against New Zealand

PCB's General Manager Sports Medicine Dr Sohail Saleem feels that Riaz has recovered from his injury while opener Ahmed Shahzad will take some more time to get fully fit after receiving a blow on his jaw.

Saleem has been keeping a close eye on Wahab and Shahzad as they continue their rehabs.

Shahzad was hit be a vicious bouncer from New Zealand’s Corey Anderson during first Test in Abu Dhabi which led to a hairline fracture on his cheekbone and the batsman was sent back to Pakistan for recovery.

The opener was examined on November 19 in Lahore and the examinations showed fracture of a part of his right cheek bone.

“Presently Shahzad has mild tenderness over the fracture site. Also his mouth opening has improved considerably from the previously limited state,” Salim said in his health report available to Sport360.

““It has been decided that he will be treated conservatively for this injury as surgery is required only for cosmetic reasons in such cases. A review has been planned on Monday."

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has been ruled out of both T20 and ODI series against the Black Caps after a wrist fracture.

“Sohaib Maqsood has been advised three weeks rest after diagnostic investigations confirmed wrist bone fracture and a small tear in one of the ligaments,” Salim noted.

“The batsman had injured his wrist while playing for Pakistan ‘A’ against the UAE last month. This injury will put him out of contention for selection in the T20I and ODI series against New Zealand.”
