    Trial matches for England board’s proposed new 100-balls per side competition will take place next month, the Professional Cricketers’ Association announced.

    Men’s trial games will be held at Trent Bridge and the women’s matches at Loughborough.

    India dropped opener Murali Vijay for the last two Tests in England and picked 18-year-old batsman Prithvi Shaw instead.

    A prolific batsman overseas not too long ago, Vijay looked all at sea in the the first two Tests in England before being dropped for the third.

    It looks like Vijay’s Test career is nearing its end, writes Ashish Peter.

    3:00pm – Joe Root, Jos Buttler sign up for BBL stints with Sydney Thunder

    England Test skipper Joe Root and batsman Jos Buttler have been provided No Objection Certificates by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to participate in the next edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

    The England duo have signed for BBL franchise Sydney Thunder and will be made available for the first half of the competition which gets underway in December.

    12:00pm – Michael Holding not convinced by Jasprit Bumrah’s new ball credentials

    Jasprit Bumrah might have bowled a sensational spell with the second new ball during England’s second innings at Trent Bridge but Michael Holding remains unconvinced. The West Indies legend had earlier stated that Bumrah is not suitable to take the new ball in England and he is sticking to that stance despite Bumrah’s seven-wicket haul in India’s 203-run win.

    11:00am – Steve Smith’s new bowling action inspired by Shahid Afridi

    Banned Australia star Steve Smith is currently rocking it up in the Caribbean Premier League where his all-round display on Thursday helped Barbados Tridents beat the Jamaica Tallawahs by two runs. Apart from scoring a half-century, Smith bagged two wickets with his leg-spin.

    The Aussie has made some significant tweaks to his bowling action which he has based on former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Read what Smith had to say about his new bowling style and Afridi here.
