  • Rashid Khan (r) has overtaken Shakib Al Hasan (l).

Afghanistan star Rashid Khan continues to make waves in international cricket with the leg-spinner climbing to the top of the ICC ODI rankings for all-rounders.

In the latest ICC rankings for all-rounders released on Sunday, Rashid displaced Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan in the top spot following his excellent showing in the recently concluded Asia Cup.

Afghanistan caught the eye with their performances in only their second Asia Cup participation with Rashid excelling with both the ball and the bat.

The 20-year-old finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the tournament with 10 scalps to his name from five matches. He also struck his third ODI half-century in the group-stage clash against Bangladesh. In that match, Rashid struck an unbeaten 32-ball 57 on what was his 20th birthday while also picking two wickets with the ball.

In the bowlers’ rankings, Rashid remained in second spot behind India’s Jasprit Bumrah with Bhuvneshwar Kumar occupying the third position in the table.

India stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma’s excellent tournament with the bat saw him rise two spots to claim second position in the batsmen’s ranking. Virat Kohli continues to retain the top spot despite being rested for the Asia Cup.

Rohit’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan too saw a jump in his ranking with the left-hander climbing five spots to claim fifth position in the table.

In the ODI team rankings, England maintained their No1 status with India remaining in second spot following their Asia Cup triumph. New Zealand and South Africa occupy the third and fourth spots respectively with Pakistan following in the fifth berth.
