  • Renshaw copped a blow to his head in the warm-up game against Pakistan A.

Australia batsman Matt Renshaw could be a doubt for the first Test against Pakistan after sustaining a head injury in his side’s ongoing warm-up game at Dubai.

Renshaw was struck on the head following a pull shot from Pakistan A batsman Abid Ali while fielding at short-leg on Sunday.

He was immediately taken off the field for further checks with Marnus Labuschagne taking his place in the playing XI.

Following the end of the day’s play, Aaron Finch stated that Renshaw was in ‘good spirits’.

“He’s okay. It was a pretty heavy knock to the head there. He´s been with the medical staff all afternoon but he seems in really good spirits. He´s confident that his headaches are subsiding pretty quickly,” Finch told reporters on Sunday.

The 22-year-old batsman has had a history with concussions in the past. In March this year, Renshaw was substituted out of a Sheffield Shield clash for Queensland after suffering a concussion during the warm-up.

Last year, he was withdrawn from Australia’s Test against Pakistan at Sydney after having taken a hit to his head while fielding.

The youngster is looking to establish himself in Australia’s Test set-up once again after being dropped for the Ashes series against England last year.

The Yorkshire-born batsman had a terrific start to his Test career after making his debut in 2016 but a string of poor performances in the domestic arena saw him lose his place in the squad over time.

He made his comeback to the Australia squad earlier this year in the Test series against South Africa.  The left-hander was flown in as an emergency replacement for David Warner for the final Test after the Australia vice-captain was dropped in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal which occurred in Cape Town.

The first of the two Tests between Pakistan and Australia will get underway at the Dubai International Cricket stadium on October 7.
