  • Jason Roy has not given up on his Test dreams just yet.

Having seen Jos Buttler force his way back into England’s Test set-up over the course of the summer, Jason Roy too is eyeing a call up in the five-day format.

The limited-overs opener will be a part of the England Lions squad which will tour the UAE later this year and is hoping to make use of that platform to confirm his Test credentials.

Roy will be a part of a strong Lions XI which will take on Pakistan A in a four-day match in November. The Englishman is hoping to make the best use of that opportunity while working under batting coach Graham Thorpe.

“It has always been an ambition and dream of mine to play Test cricket but I have just got to bide my time and wait in the wings and see what happens,” Roy said in an interview with Sky Sports.

“(Going to Dubai) is a good opportunity to get some red-ball stuff under my belt in case that call comes. It is good to work with Graham Thorpe as well.

Roy is currently battling it out in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

“I think it is just a case of fine tuning, my defensive game is in order that is not an issue. I do not want to change too much from my white-ball to red-ball.”

The Surrey batsman has been a permanent fixture in England’s white-ball set-up for some time now but has failed to earn a single Test cap. In 80 first-class matches so far in his career, Roy has scored 4,572 runs at an average of 38.42.

He is currently a part of the England ODI squad which is battling it out against Sri Lanka in a five-match series. The right-hander scored 24 runs in the washed out first ODI before being dismissed for a duck in the second match of the series at Dambulla on Saturday.
