  • South Africa batsman JP Duminy.

South African batsman JP Duminy was ruled out of his team’s limited overs tour of Australia due to a shoulder injury.

The left-handed batsman is the second experienced player to be out of the tour after Hashim Amla was earlier ruled out because of a finger injury.

Cricket South Africa announced that Duminy will undergo surgery on his right shoulder after aggravating an old injury during the series against Zimbabwe which ended last week.

Duminy will also miss the inaugural Mzansi Super League which starts on November 15. He was named as a marquee player for the Cape Town Blitz team.

Team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said it was not possible to tell when Duminy will return to action.

“That is dependent on the results from the surgery,” he said.

South Africa will play three ODIs and one Twenty20 in Australia early next month.
