  • Alex Hales is stumped by Niroshan Dickwella.

England won a rain-affected fourth ODI against Sri Lanka by 18 runs, with the weather proving to be a spoilsport yet again.

Sri Lanka posted a challenging total of 273-7 in the fourth ODI on Saturday.

Opener Niroshan Dickwella scored 52 while all-rounder Dasun Shanaka smashed 66 from as many balls to boost the hosts.

Off-spinner Moeen Ali took 2-55 while all-rounder Chris Woakes finished with 1-45.

In the chase, opener Alex Hales was stumped of the bowling of Akila Dananjaya as the visitors reached 57-1 after 11 overs.

The visitors were on 132-2 after 27 overs when rain interrupted the match, which has happened throughout the tour.

The match couldn’t be resumed and England were awarded the match as they were 18 ahead of the Duckworth/Lewis score.

Hales returned to England’s team after Jonny Bairstow was ruled out with a twisted ankle. Opening batsman Bairstow suffered the injury during the team’s football warm-up on Friday, but that did not stop his team-mates taking part in a kick around before play in Kandy.
