  • A second Test double ton for the Bangladesh wicketkeeper.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim made history on Monday when he became the first wicketkeeper to register two double tons in Test cricket.

The Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman attained the feat on day two of his side’s second Test against Zimbabwe at Dhaka on Monday.

The right-hander’s unbeaten 219 put the hosts in command as they declared their first innings at 522-7. By the time stumps were drawn on day two, Zimbabwe had been reduced to 25-1.

Mushifqur’s 421-ball innings contained 18 boundaries and a six and it broke the record for the highest Test score by a Bangladesh batsman which was previously held by Shakib Al Hasan (217).

The hosts had earlier resumed from their overnight score of 303-5 with Zimbabwe suffering a huge blow in the very first session on day two. Pacer Tendai Chitara had to be stretchered off the field after doing damage to his hamstring while bowling and has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test.

Zimbabwe lost Masakdza's wicket before the close of play.

Mushfiqur and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared a record unbroken stand of 144 runs for the eighth wicket to drive home Bangladesh’s advantage before the two batsmen were called in by skipper Mahmudullah.

Hasan then played a part in the Zimbabwe wicket to fall on the day as he grabbed on to a sharp chance at slip off the bowling of Taijul Islam to end Hamilton Masakadza’s stay at the crease.

The visitors are searching for their first Test series victory in seven years after their spirited 151-run win in the series opener at Sylhet.
