  • Finch was left searching for answers after Australia's 40-run defeat.

Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has hinted at changes in the team’s batting order for the upcoming visit of India after his men were handed a 2-1 loss in the ODI series by South Africa.

The Proteas won the third and final ODI at Hobart on Sunday by 40 runs to hand Australia another series defeat following their losses in England and in the UAE against Pakistan.

Australia’s dismal batting was once again under the scanner at Hobart with none of the hosts’ batsmen bar Shaun Marsh, who struck 106, being able to make a significant impact.

With three T20s and as many ODIs against the high-flying Indians coming up, Finch stated that there could be some experimentation with the batting-order in the coming months.

“Between the batting line-up not having got it right for a little while now there’s going to be questions asked whether it’s Maxi (Glenn Maxwell), Lynny (Chris Lynn), Heady (Travis Head), or myself or Stoin (Marcus Stoinis). It’s important that we really nut out the balance of the side and get that right over the next two months,” Finch was quoted as saying by AFP after the series loss.

Another dismal display by Aussie batsmen.

“We have to either adapt our game plan a little bit around the way the side structures up best or we slightly change our personnel to fit a style that we think can win,” he continued.

The Aussie skipper changed things up in the third ODI by promoting the hard-hitting Chris Lynn to open the innings. The move backfired with Lynn being dismissed for a golden duck by Dale Steyn in the very first delivery of Australia’s chase of 321.

Finch though, is backing Lynn to make that position his own.

“Yeah, it could be a long-term plan,” he stated.

“It was an attacking option to put Chris at the top, to change him and Travis (Head), to put a couple of guys up there who can get us off to a flyer. It was an attacking move.  If I had my time again I’d still do it.”
