  • The second edition of the T10 League promised bigger and better action with eight teams battling it out in Sharjah over 12 days.

With top stars from across the world, including eight prominent Indian names, led by Zaheer Khan, in the mix the T10 League saw some memorable action in Sharjah, raising the bar in an already enthralling tournament.

The cricket was of high quality with some incredible records set this year. Here we take a look at a few of them.

    Highest team total

Northern Warriors won the second edition of the T10 League.

Northern Warriors won the second edition of the T10 League.

Eventual champions Northern Warriors raised the bar to a new level when they amassed 183 in 10 overs – the highest in the first 10 overs in any cricket format – against Punjabi Legends.

Northern Warriors scored at nearly 20 runs for 10 straight overs against the Legends with Nicholas Pooran hitting 77 from just 25 deliveries and Andre Russell hitting 38 from nine. To put that into context, the very next day the Pakistan Test team scored 207-4 in an entire day’s play against New Zealand in the Dubai Test.

    Hales goes hammer and tongs

In the opening match of the tournament, Afghan opener Mohammed Shahzad went berserk as he cracked 74 not out from 16 balls as the Rajputs chased down a 95-run target against the Sindhis in four overs. His 74 was the highest individual score in T10 before England’s Jonny Bairstow cracked an unbeaten 84 off 24 balls for the Kerala Knights against Bengal Tigers.

That record too didn’t stand for long as Bairstow’s compatriot Alex Hales – batting for Maratha Arabians – smashed 87 not out against the Tigers, which remained the highest score in the tournament.

    Yamin’s double hat-trick

There was something in it for the bowlers as well. Bengal Tigers’ Pakistani all-rounder Aamer Yamin registered a rare double hat-trick when he picked up four wickets in four consecutive deliveries against Northern Warriors. The same day, veteran Indian cricketer 47-year-old Pravin Tambe of the Sindhis picked up 5-15, including a hat-trick, against Kerala Knights.

Warriors all-rounder Hardus Viljoen finished as the league’s top bowler with 18 wickets from nine games.
