  • Haris Sohail and Azhar Ali in action on day two.

Day two of the deciding Test between Pakistan and New Zealand resumed at Abu Dhabi with the Kiwis continuing from their overnight score of 227-7 in the first innings.

BJ Watling brought up a fighting half-century for the Kiwis as he continued his stubborn stand alongside debutant Will Somerville. Somerville’s 99-ball vigil at the crease was ultimately ended by Bilal Asif who also accounted for Ajaz Patel. New Zealand were ultimately bowled out for 274 with Asif completing a five-wicket haul.

In reply, Pakistan lost opener Mohammad Hafeez for a duck in their first innings with Trent Boult picking up the wicket before lunch was taken on day two. Boult removed Imam-ul-Haq after lunch to leave Pakistan reeling at 17-2. Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail steadied the ship and took Pakistan to 81-2 before tea.

Sohail fell in the final session as Azhar scored an unbeaten fifty to take the team to safety.
