  • Virat Kohli has brought up a fine half-century in Perth.

India are facing an uphill battle to claw their way back into the second Test at Perth, having seen openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay fall early in their reply to Australia’s first innings total of 326 all out.

Following the early loss of the openers, the visitors fought back through a watchful stand between skipper Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. Their 74-run stand was broken by Mitchell Starc who dismissed Pujara (24) in the final session of the day.

Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane brought up their respective half-centuries as they ensured no more wickets fell on the day. By the time stumps were drawn on Saturday at Perth, the tourists had reached 172-3 in their first innings.

Virat Kohli’s men enjoyed a famous and tense 31-run victory in the Adelaide opener, triumphing in Australia for the first time since 2008.
