  • Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera.

Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Perera was ruled out of the rest of the five-match ODI series against South Africa due to a hamstring injury.

The left-handed batsman picked up the injury in the third ODI in Durban on Sunday. Perera, who starred in a stunning run chase in the first Test against the Proteas with a match-winning fourth innings 153 not out, left the field in the seventh over of the ODI after hurting his left leg.

Sri Lanka Cricket said it won’t be sending any replacement.

Perera had great run in the Test series against the Proteas, scoring 353 runs in five innings including a fifty and a ton. The Sri Lankans have lost all three ODIs so far with the fourth match in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

It has been a horrible few months as far as fitness is concerned for Sri Lanka. Left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya was ruled out of the second Test in Port Elizabeth after dislocating his left thumb while fielding.

Before that, Sri Lanka fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera picked up an ankle injury during the first Test against Australia at the Gabba in January.

Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara had earlier been ruled out of the South Africa tour due to a hamstring injury. Right arm quick Nuwan Pradeep also picked up a hamstring injury in Australia.
