  • Relief for former India pacer S Sreesanth.

The Supreme Court of India has on Friday revoked the life ban imposed on S Sreesanth by the BCCI.

The former India pacer was handed a life ban by the BCCI disciplinary committee for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal which occurred during the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL).

A Supreme Court bench comprising of Justices KM Joseph Ashok Bhushan upheld Sreesanth’s guilty conviction but has asked the BCCI to revise the quantum of punishment handed out to the pacer within the next three months.

The bench has argued that the BCCI disciplinary committee did not take into account mitigating factors like Sreesanth’s past track record while handing out the harshest punishment for the spot-fixing scandal.

Sreesanth had initially appealed against BCCI’s punishment in the Kerala High Court where he failed to find relief before approaching the Supreme Court of India.

Now 36, Sreesanth has played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20s over the course of his international career for India with his last appearance coming in August, 2011. The Kerala-born pacer has not played any competitive cricket since the 2013 IPL where he represented the Rajasthan Royals.
