  • Murali Vijay has shown how good a T20 player he is

Murali Vijay wants Kings XI Punjab to cash in on their new-found confidence and start winning more matches.

Vijay (96 runs) along with his young opening partner Manan Vohra (121) have been the batting mainstays for Punjab, who have just one win from three games so far.

But their six-wicket victory against Rising Pune Supergiants’ all-star cast on Sunday was set up the opening duo as they raised 97 runs to chase down a target of 153.

Punjab run into another strong team on Tuesday night, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders with Vijay remaining optimistic about his team’s chances.

“We would like to carry the momentum forward,” he said. “We just want to do well and take it match by match. That is more important rather than looking too far ahead in the tournament; just relax and back your instincts. Stick to your gameplan and perform as consistently as possible.”

KKR assistant coach Simon Katch insists they are not taking underforming Punjab lightly terming them a “dangerous team”.

Kolkata, meanwhile, have suffered a blow as their Australian allrounder John Hastings has been ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury. Knight Riders are yet to confirm his replacement.
