    TEAM NEWS, SQUADS, PREDICTED XIs

GL SQUAD: Suresh Raina (c), Akshdeep Nath, Shubham Agarwal, Basil Thampi, Dwayne Bravo, Chirag Suri, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Manpreet Gony, Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shadab Jakati, Dinesh Karthik (W), Shivil Kaushik, Dhawal Kulkarni, Praveen Kumar, Brendon McCullum, Munaf Patel, Pratham Singh, Jason Roy, Pradeep Sangwan, Jaydev Shah, Shelley Shaurya, Nathu Singh, Dwayne Smith, Tejas Baroka, Andrew Tye

It’s been a woeful start to the tournament for Gujarat, who have been on the back of two defeats from two thus far.

Making matters worse is that both defeats have been heavy losses, the first a 10-wicket humbling at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders, followed by a crushing nine-wicket hammering by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It means their bowling attack has just one-wicket to show for their efforts – that picked up by Praveen Kumar – and they need to quickly address their issues if they are to get anything out of this campaign.

UAE’s Chirag Suri is yet to debut and they’ll be soon thinking of chucking him into the mix considering the woes of the team although the likes of James Faulkner and Andrew Tye are more likely right now with the bowling department needing a rethink.

PREDICTED GL XI: McCullum, Roy, Raina (c), Finch, D Karthik (wk), Faulkner, Gony, Kumar, Jakati, Kulkarni, Kaushik

RPS SQUAD: Steve Smith (c), Mayank Agarwal, Ankit Sharma, Baba Aparajith, Ankush Bains, Rajat Bhatia, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Dan Christian, MS Dhoni (W), Ashok Dinda, Faf du Plessis, Lockie Ferguson, Imran Tahir, Jaskaran Singh, Usman Khawaja, Ajinkya Rahane, Saurabh Kumar, Ben Stokes, Milind Tandon, Manoj Tiwary, Adam Zampa, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishwar Pandey, Rahul Tripathi, Shardul Thakur

Like their hosts, Pune have had a poor start to the tournament and only sit one spot above bottom of the table Gujarat going into this game after one win from three.

There is plenty of talent in this Pune side but they are yet to click as a unit and last time out they were hapless with the bat in the absence of skipper Steven Smith.

It would be a huge surprise if Smith were to miss out again but that means either Faf du Plessis – Smith’s replacement against Delhi Daredevils – or one of Pune’s star leg-spinners Adam Zampa or Imran Tahir sit out, with big money signing Ben Stokes likely to keep his spot.

Expect Zampa or Du Plessis to miss out, most likely Zampa considering the team’s need for runs, while Manoj Tiwary will come back into the side if he is in the right frame of mind for selection having missed the Delhi match due to the death of his father.

PREDICTED RPS XI: Rahane, Agarwal, Smith (c), Du Plessis, Stokes, Dhoni, Tiwary, Bhatia, Chahar, Tahir, Dinda

    MATCH PREDICTION

Despite the form guide, one side will win this one and we’re going for Gujarat on home soil even if Pune do look the better team. They have to win at some point, right?
