The old adage, “catches win matches” is one Rising Pune Supergiant would’ve been reminded of ruthlessly by Robin Uthappa after they let his wicket slip through their fingers (quite literally) while he had only put up 12 runs on Wednesday.
After being dropped by Jaydev Unadkat, Uthappa made Pune pay as he guided Kolkata Knight Riders to a comfortable seven-wicket win.
The wicketkeeper-batsman took the Pune bowlers to the cleaners as he hit seven fours and six sixes in his knock of 87 which came from just 47 deliveries. He took a particular liking to the spinners, scoring 45 runs from 20 balls against Imran Tahir and Washington Sundar.
Uthappa was well supported by captain Gautam Gambhir as the duo added a 158-run partnership for the second wicket.
The 31-year-old also made an useful contribution behind the stumps, as he carried out three stumpings during the Pune innings.
