  • Australia’s former fast bowler Brett Lee has called Under-19 World Cup winner and Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Shivam Mavi the future of Indian bowling.

Mavi made headlines during the U19 World Cup earlier in the year as he regularly clocked speeds in excess of 140kph along with Kamlesh Nagarkoti. At the ongoing IPL, Mavi has made a decent impression in the absence of the injured Nagarkoti. While he only has three wickets from seven matches, the 19-year-old Mavi has troubled a few batsmen with his pace and control.

“I think Mavi has got everything. His action is beautiful and he packs himself as a fully furnished bowler,” Lee, who is on TV duty for IPL broadcasters Star Sports, said in a media release.

“With youngsters like Mavi, it’s extremely important to play with confidence, enjoying the spirit of the game. He knows what he is doing and it looks like he really enjoys his cricket. I think Mavi for me is the future for Indian bowlers.”

Mavi has made steady progress over the last few seasons and has added late swing to his pace, making him a great prospect for India over the next few years. At the U19 World Cup, Mavi picked up nine wickets from nine games at an economy of 4.12.
