Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first. For the hosts, pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to the line-up while West Indies’ Carlos Brathwaite was also given an opportunity. The Kolkata Knight Riders have made only one change from their win over Rajasthan Royals with leg-spinner Piyush Chawla coming in for pacer Shivam Mavi.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami gave the Sunrises are a rollicking start with the bat as the duo put on 60 runs in the first six overs. Their 79-run partnership was brought to an end by Kuldeep Yadav in the ninth over. At the end of the 10th over, the hosts had reached 92-1 with Dhawan batting on 42 (31).

Despite a strong platform, the hosts lost their way after the 15th over as seven wickets fell while 31 runs were scored off the final 30 deliveries. Dhawan top-scored for Hyderabad who ended their innings at 172-9. Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the Kolkata bowlers as the pacer finished with figures of 4-30.

In reply, the Knight Riders were going along nicely at the half-way mark after an excellent start from Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn. Narine smashed a 10-ball 29 before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. At the end of 10 overs, Kolkata had reached 90-1 with Lynn unbeaten on 43 runs.

Lynn ultimately departed for a well-made 55 in the 14th over but by then Kolkata had seized complete control of the chase. Ultimately, the visitors won with two balls to spare with skipper Dinesh Karthik remaining unbeaten on.
