  • Jasprit Bumrah had bruised his shoulder in the loss to Delhi.

In what will come as a big relief to Mumbai Indians fans, Jasprit Bumrah’s injury is not understood to be a serious one with the India pacer on track to recover quickly.

Bumrah had bruised his shoulders in Mumbai’s 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign opener against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede. The pace spearhead injured himself during the last delivery of Delhi’s innings while attempting to stop the ball off his own bowling.

Bumrah subsequently did not come to bat later as the Mumbai Indians fell to a 37-run defeat. While it is being reported that the bowler has been advised rest for the side’s next two clashes, the team have confirmed that his recovery is progressing smoothly.

“Bumrah is in Mumbai along with team physio Nitin Patel, continuing with the assessment,” a Mumbai Indians official was quoted as saying by the Hindu.

“His recovery is on track and fortunately no sign of stress.”

Bumrah will be key for India in the 2019 World Cup.

According to a report by the Hindu, Bumrah could miss Mumbai’s clashes against Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab after intervention from the India medical staff.

The 25-year-old remains crucial to India’s World Cup hopes in England and as such, the team management wants to ensure that he is fit and firing for the global showcase starting on May 30.

Mumbai’s pace battery had been dwindling even before Bumrah had picked up his injury. New Zealand express-quick Adam Milne had earlier been ruled out of the IPL with a heel injury.

Meanwhile, Australia pacer Jason Behrendorrf is currently away on international duty in the UAE for his side’s ongoing ODI series against Pakistan.

Thankfully for Rohit Sharma’s men, veteran Lasith Malinga has now been cleared by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to play in the side’s next two fixtures before he returns home to compete in the Super Provincial One-Day Cup.
