Shahid Afridi on 'That' catch and other takeaways from Karachi Kings' win over Quetta Gladiators

In what was an average total of 149, Karachi bowlers rose to the occasion and never let Quetta batsmen settle from the word go. There is serious bowling talent in Mickey Arthur’s squad with Imad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Irfan Junior, Mohammad Amir and Tymal Mills showing in the opening victory that they can do the damage. Arthur will be hoping this will be just the start of things to come for the rest of the tournament.

JOFRA ARCHER COULD BE KEY PLAYER FOR QUETTA GLADIATORS

At just 22, the Sussex medium pacer showed once again his potential with figures of 2-30. Despite playing in Big Bash League and Bangladesh Premier League, he was initially overlooked in the auction but was drafted in following Carlos Brathwaite’s decision to play in the World Cup Qualifiers for West Indies next month. It might only be his first appearance but the signs are there that he could be a crucial player for Quetta in this tournament.

Colin Ingram had already hit a boundary two balls earlier in the over in where Anwar Ali had already conceded eight runs in the over. It was a matter of time before the South African batsman went for the maximum and he did so, punishing Ali’s poor wide delivery, adjusting his footing and body to get the cleanest of strikes with the ball going onto the sightscreen.

Colin Ingram didn’t waste too much time at the crease and made a big impact which ultimately went a long way in Karachi’s victory. The South African was at his best, smashing five boundaries and two sixes in his 21-ball stay, scoring 41.
