  • Mohammad Hafeez.

Recently retired Pakistan batsman Mohammad Hafeez was unveiled as the new captain of PSL side Lahore Qalandars for the upcoming edition of the T20 tournament.

Hafeez, who previously played for Peshawar Zalmi, said it will be a challenge to lead Qalandars.

“Captaining Qalandars will be a challenge for me. But we have all the players to become champions,” he said.

Qalandars have finished bottom of the table in all three editions of the tournament. In all, they have lost 18 out of 26 matches.

The all-rounder, 38, said he gave up Test cricket in order to prolong his white-ball career.

“I have retired from Test cricket with honour and respect. However, the time frame is not right to retire from one-day internationals and T20,” he added.

Hafeez retired from Tests at the end of the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand in UAE. Hafeez has played 248 T20 matches, scoring 5,244 runs at a strike rate of 122.35. He also captained Pakistan in T20s between 2012 and 2014.
