  • Roaring celebration: Alubond Tigers.

Alubond Tigers were crowned champions in the UBL Floodlit Twenty20 Cup after a comprehensive 44-run victory over Team Interface in Abu Dhabi.

Rohan Mustafa, the UAE international, played the key role, leading with the bat with a half-century. The all-rounder shared an opening wicket stand of 89 with Shahid Sadiqe (24) in just nine overs to give his side the perfect platform after being put to bat at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The 27-year-old was in fine form, hitting seven fours and a six during his 43-ball 56.

There were also useful contributions from the No. 3 and No. 4 batsmen Amjad Gul and Ghulam Sabir, who both chipped in with 35 apiece as Tigers posted a challenging score of 189-7 in their 20 overs.

Set an imposing target, Interface could muster only 145-9 after being 56-4 at the half-way stage. Farhan Babar top-scored with 33, while UAE captain Ahmed Raza, who took three wickets, finished unbeaten on 32.

Shareef Asadullah was the standout bowler finishing with figures of 3-30 from his four overs. He removed both the openers Ibtisham Saif (13) and Hafeez Kaleem (22) and lower-order batsman Mohammed Boota (4) to put his team on the driver’s seat.

Nasir Aziz took two wickets while Asadullah’s new-ball partner Sultan Ahmed bowled a tidy four overs to return with one for 21. Mustafa grabbed a wicket for 12 runs from his two overs.
