  • No sweat: Dubai Hawks scored a comfortable win over Fly Emirates.

At Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Dubai Hawks first restricted Fly Emirates to 121, and then achieved the target with five balls to spare.

The Hawks innings was built around a brilliant century opening stand between Farrukh Kazmi and Rizwan CP.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Fly Emirates had a decent start with openers Krishna Chandran and Qammar Hussain sharing a cautious 37 runs for the first wicket in seven overs. However, Hussain ate up as many as 25 balls for his knock of 11.

While Krishna Chandran stood firm and reached an impressive 53 off just 50 deliveries, in which he hit four boundaries and a six, wickets kept tumbling at the other end with none of the middle-order batsman rising up to the occasion.

A couple of batsmen got a start, but failed to build on it and it was left to Umer Shah to inject some sense of urgency to the innings with a 19-ball 25 that contained two sixes. Fly Emirates finally reached 121 for six in their 20 overs.

Ahmed Raza was the successful bowler for Hawks, claiming two wickets in his four overs giving away only 20 runs, while Ahmed Shaukat also impressed as he gave away just eight runs in his three overs and took a wicket as well.

Chasing a relatively easy target, Hawks were never under pressure as openers Kazmi and Rizwan got into the act from the word go.

The duo wiped out 108 runs of the target in 16.5 overs, ensuring Hawks were never in any trouble.

While Kazmi faced 53 deliveries for his 48 (three boundaries and two sixes), Rizwan smashed 58 off 54 balls with four hits to the fence and one six.

UAE player Shaiman Anwar then finished off the innings in his own slam-bang style, making 12 not out in just six balls as Dubai Hawks secured their victory in 19.1 overs.

Earlier, in the opening match of the tournament, Alam Gir scalped an impressive four wickets and Fayyaz Ahmed scored a quickfire half century to guide NMC to a winning start against Radio4.

Gir’s brilliance with the ball led to an embarrassing 109-run defeat for the rivals.

NMC openers went on a rampage after winning the toss with Ahmed making 68 in 32 balls. Tanveer Ahmed played second fiddle with 39 in 36 deliveries as the pair put on 111 runs in 11.2 overs as NMC reached 185 for four.

Radio 4 were bowled out for a meager 79 in 19.4 overs with Gir taking four for six runs in 2.4 overs.

    Mazhar Bashir took 3-16.
