  • Showdown: The captains shake hands.

Yogi Group and Wings SRT are locked up in a tight battle in the final of the Danube Series after a thrilling first day at the ICC Academy Oval 1 in Dubai.

Shehzad Manna top-scored with 69 for Yogi Group, who were all out for 249 after being asked to bat first.

Glenn Querl was the star performer for Wings SRT, finishing with a fivewicket haul (5-77), while Tom Driver scalped three batsmen.

In reply, Wings SRT ended the opening day of the two-day match on 61-3, with Yogi Group’s Shehzad Manna claiming all three wickets.

However, Wings will rely on the services of Ashfaq Ahmed, who is unbeaten on 47, today.

Yogi batsmen Abid Ali and Jai Kishan put on a 50-run stand, but as soon as Kishan got out, Wassim Bari (4) and Ali (34) were dismissed by Driver.

With the score 69-3, and in need of stability, Aniket Desai and the experienced Manna pushed the score past the 100-mark before Querl picked up two wickets in one over.

Yogi Group skipper Avadoot Amonkar took to the crease and put on a 50-run partnership with Manna. However, Querl got his third victim of the day, with Amonkar mis-hitting.

Querl then dismissed Sameer Khan and Abdul Samad for a duck, both in the same over.

Manna departed with the score at 186, but a 10th wicket partnership between Shadab Khan (42) and an unbeaten 28 by Jaymin Tailor frustrated Wings SRT.

After finally getting the last man, Wings SRT began their innings positively, reaching 43 for no wicket in the 10th over.

But the script then took a twist for the worse, with one wicket leading to another. Wings skipper Riffat Ullah was caught superbly by Samad at point when on 10.

In came centurion (171 against Dubai Lions) from the last match, Alcindo Holder. He was bowled with the first ball, giving Manna two wickets from two balls.
