Franks began his six week stint last Sunday but the Englishman travelled back home after his father suddenly fell ill.

The 37-year-old will not return to Dubai but will resume his duties when the 14-man squad arrive in Southampton, England next Monday ahead of the UAE’s encounters against Scotland.

“The whole of the ECB (Emirates Cricket Board) is behind Paul’s decision (to back home to England),” said Will Kitchen, UAE Cricket High Performance manager and ICC Academy Manager.

“Dom is overseeing training sessions and he’s got the whole support of the staff behind him. The players and coaches know Paul very well and the players have worked really hard this week.”

Franks’ assistant Telo is no stranger to cricket in the UAE. The former Derbyshire cricketer is head coach of top domestic side Danube Lions and has been among the coaching staff for the national seniors and Under-19s.

The UAE begin their tour with a four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup match on August 9, followed by two 50-over World Cricket League encounters (August 12 and 14).
