Iconic CC edge past GWB Super Kings in Sharjah T20 Summer Cup

  • Iconic will now play in the quarter-finals of the Sharjah T20 Summer Cup.

    Chasing a target of 138 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Super Kings lost early wickets with the top-order failing with the bat.

    Azhar Abbas and Rafaqat Ali scored an identical 11 while Noman Hussain made a good start but fell when he looked settled at 20 from 22 deliveries including a boundary and a six.

    At 90-5 and with 16 overs gone, after Nadeem took a couple of scalps, Super Kings were on course for victory especially after Sheerin Khan went on the attack. His 15-ball 35, contained five boundaries and a six but it was not enough as Nadeem completed his five-wicket haul while Imran Ahmed and Mohsin Khan (two each) did the damage with the ball.

    Earlier, Ahmed Butt (40), Mohsin (35) and Faraz Khan (26) all shone with the bat as Iconic reached 138-9 in their allotted 20 overs.

    For Super Kings, Sadaqat Ali Shah and Jamshaid Akhtar claimed three wickets while Sheerin Khan took two.

    Meanwhile, Muhib Ullah struck a fine half century as Panthers CC sealed a two-wicket victory over NTDE and will join Iconic in the last-eight.

    Chasing 157, Ullah provided the perfect start as he blasted 61 from only 41 deliveries including seven boundaries and three sixes.

    He also shared a vital 68-run partnership with Bilal Khalid (23) for the opening wicket. Abdul Shakoor continued the good work as he scored 35 from just 24 deliveries including four boundaries.

    But once he fell, Panthers lost further wickets before Ahsan Ali scored a timely 11 from only four deliveries including two hits fours as they reached their target in the penultimate ball.

    Earlier, opting to bat first after winning the toss, NTDE reached 156-5 in their allotted 20 overs with Fawad Ali top-scoring with a superb 59.

    He was in fine form with the bat as his 47-ball innings included six boundaries and three sixes.

    Although he was removed, Wasim Asad provided the final touches as he fired a 22-ball 32, supported by four boundaries.

    For Panthers, Shylesh Karayi was the stand-out bowler, claiming three wickets in his three overs.
